This is the first time that a four-year agreement has been reached between Unite and the Electrical Contractors` Association (ECA). ECA Chief Negotiator Paul McNaughton said: “I am pleased with the outcome of the negotiations – all the more welcome that in this time of considerable uncertainty it offers security for the entire economy. A four-year comparison allows the European Security Court and Unite to agree on more important long-term changes needed to modernise the sector. Breakaway`s contractors are Bailey Building Services, Balfour Beatty Engineering Services, T. Clarke, Crown House Technologies, Gratte Brothers, SES and SPIE Matthew Hall. MJN Colston, although originally part of the “eight”, has since decided to leave the group. These contractors are working to implement a new BESNA agreement, which will be preferred to the existing national JIB agreements on plumbing and electricity. The two mixed industry boards, JIBPMES & SNIJIB for the Plumbing Industry, consider that the proposed BESNA agreement is unfavourable from the point of view of employers, workers and the sector as a whole with regard to the conditions and procedures currently proposed in the existing national collective agreements of the JIB. The two plumber MOCs believe that there is no urgent need to depart from existing national agreements, which continue to offer sector-specific employment conditions to employees and apprentices negotiated between employers and the union`s UNITE. Sanitation employees need to consider whether the transition to the BESNA agreement is in their best interest, comparing the differences between existing health contracts and the offer under the new BESNA agreement. UNITE, the union, co-signatory of the existing national health agreements, has made it clear to each of the contractors involved in BESNA that UNITE does not intend to accept this new BESNA agreement. The two Plmbing Joint Industry Boards for England and Wales and Scotland and Northern Ireland wish to retain these contractors under the existing JIB national agreements and are working with the two electricity industry MOCs to cooperate with them to push them to reconsider the unilateral introduction of the BESNA agreement. The increases will take place from Monday 6 Effective January 1, 2020, in the final phase of the current four-year JIB agreement with the union The Joint Industry Board facilitated discussions between the two parties and released all the details of the agreement.
